Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) Gender and Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy
Policy document
With support from the Norwegian Government under the 'Promoting Workers Rights and Gender Equality at Work in Africa' Project, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has supported the Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) to develop a Gender and Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy in English and Chichewa Versions which will provide a safe environment that is free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence and sexual harassment for MCTU and its affiliates.
A number of developments have taken place since Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) developed the 2022 Sexual Harassment Policy and the 2017 Gender Policy. Malawian workers, regardless of sex, continue to experience discrimination and different aspects oof violence and harassment including gender based violence and sexual harassment. This span the entire human resource management functions including at the point of entry. The current situation therefore, has called for the development of a new policy that will allow MCTU to play a more visible role in promoting gender equality and preventing violence and harassment. MCTU therefore seeks to promote gender equality and ensure a safe working environment for all workers in the federation and its affiliate unions.
In order to address this concern, MCTU has developed the Gender and Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy which has harmonized the 2017 Gender policy and the 2022 Sexual Harassment Policy. The MCTU Gender and Anti-sexual harassment Policy is committed to providing a safe environment for MCTU and its affiliates free from discrimination on any ground and from violence and harassment at work including gender-based violence and sexual harassment.
